Stabilizing a breather in the damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation driven by two frequencies

In the framework of adiabatic perturbation theory and energy balance conditions, we analyze the possbility of stabilizing a breatherlike state (a bound state of two solitons with coinciding centers) in the damped (1+1)-dimensional cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation by a two-frequency ac drive. The analytic predictions for the threshold of driving strengths above which a stable breather exists are in good agreement with those measured in numerical simulations.
