Self-diffusion on fluids in narrow cylindrical pores

Abstract

A simple phenomenological theory of self-diffusion for fluids under stochastic dynamics in very narrow cylindrical pores is presented. It is shown that the variation of the diffusion coefficient can be accurately predicted in terms of a single parameter. As a result, physical insight into how short-time local dynamics determines the long-time transport properties is provided, which should lead to better understanding and control of transport properties.
