Abstract

An investigation was conducted of relationships between processing and properties of neat and graphite fiber-reinforced epoxy resins. Laminates were made from the prepreg tape and cured in an autoclave. Various cure cycles were employed, simulated in DSC and appropriate kinetic models were developed. Rheological changes during cure were also studied. Changes in specific heat, density and thermal conductivity were investigated as a function of both temperature and the degree of cure. An energy balance equation was then solved to obtain temperature distribution during cure. Finally, a series of mechanical property measurements were performed on cured samples and the results related to the curing condition.
