Poncelet coefficients for dry sand

Abstract

Penetration of sand has been analyzed in a Poncelet framework. Published data from several sources have been analyzed. Threshold velocities associated with grain fracture and transition from friction-dominated resistance to inertia-dominated resistance have been identified. Values for Poncelet drag and threshold velocities are found to be consistent for all of the papers on dry sand that were examined.
