Abstract

The problem of direct volume rendering of large, unstructured volumetric grids is addressed. A set of techniques are presented to render arbitrarily large data on machines with limited memory. These include a memory-intensive rendering (MIR) technique that is completely disk-based which requires a small amount of constant main memory and a unstructured-grid volume rendering technique. Out-of-core scientific visualization techniques are also discussed.
