Abstract

Oroantral communication can be the result of periapical surgery in the area of maxillary posterior teeth. This surgical accident is due to the proximity of these teeth to the maxillary sinus. With the exception of a few reports (1-3), the prevention, management, and prognosis of oroantral communication as a result of periapical surgery involving maxillary posterior teeth is seldom discussed in endodontic textbooks (4-6). The purpose of this paper is to consider some important anatomical and surgical factors related to oroantral communication resulting from periapical surgery of this area.
