Optimizing microstructures for simultaneous transport of heat and electricity

Abstract

The topology optimization method was adapted for the multifunctional optimization. As such, the topology optimization technique was used to extremize a single effective property. It was found that certain single-scale bicontinuous structures maximize the sum of the two effective conductivities and the effective properties obtained lie on a rigorous cross-property upper bound.
