Missing Hiker

Abstract

A puzzle on the fastest way of detecting the hiker's signal is presented. Whenever a hiker is seriously injured, he sends a distress signal within the range of two miles. One has to find the hikers signal as quickly as possible. Many other variants of this puzzle are also possible.
