Effects of fiber and matrix physical properties on the temperature profile inside their composite during cure

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to examine how the variation in physical properties of fibers and matrix, namely density, heat capacity and thermal conductivity, affect the model predictions and which property exerts the strongest influence on the temperature profile during cure. It is concluded that an accurate model prediction of temperature profile in composites during cure recessitates evaluation of changes of physical parameters of fibers as a function of temperature and those of resin as a function of both temperature and the degree of cure.
