Diamondlike photonic band-gap crystal with a sizable band gap

    Abstract

    A diamondlike photonic band-gap crystal that can be fabricated by a layer-by-layer construction is proposed. The band structure of this three-dimensional crystal is computed. The result shows that the crystal has a full photonic band gap of sizable width, and the gap remains open for dielectric contrast larger than 4.
