Combined tunnelling and SEM channelling analysis of metallic bilayers Al(111) epitaxed on Nb(110)

Abstract

The epitaxy of Al(111) on Nb(110) has been determined and studied by a combination of SEM channelling and electron tunnelling spectroscopy. At the interface, the [110] plane of Al was found to be parallel to the [100] plane of Nb. The superconducting phonon spectra of the Al provide a sensitive indication of interfacial strains extending into the Al film.
