Characteristics of printed antennas and arrays covered with a layer of printed strip-grating for supression of cross-polarization

Abstract

Strip gratings printed on a thin dielectric substrate, and placed in front of the printed antennas and arrays, can be effectively used for the suppression of the cross-polar radiation. This paper outlines a method of analysis for printed antennas and infinite arrays rigorously including the effects of the strip grating. Selected results are presented, with discussions on important effects. A spectral-domain moment method analysis is used, where a given current distribution on the antenna is decomposed into a Fourier spectrum, and the resulting field produced by the current distribution is obtained by superposing the fields due to the individual spectral currents.
