Calorimetric study of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and its carbon fiber composite

Abstract

An investigation was carried out into crystallization phenomena of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and its carbon fiber composites. Samples were exposed to various thermal histories and evaluated by 'differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Two melting points were detected in annealed samples, the lower of which was a function of annealing temperature. An additional (third) lower melting endotherm was detected in melt-crystallized samples. The glass transition temperature was higher in quenched/annealed samples than in melt-crystallized samples.
