Abstract

The evidence for overstepping on the Long Island barriers that we presented is largely twofold: 1) preservation of backbarrier sequences on the modern shoreface, and 2) a lenticular body of sand about 7 km seaward of the modern barriers, which we interpret as a drowned barrier. We read nothing in Leatherman's discussion that refutes these lines of evidence. -from Authors
