Application of frequency domain adaptive IIR filtering for identification of flexible structure dynamics

Abstract

An adaptive IIR filter in a parallel form realization is applied to the identification problem of flexible structure. The filter is capable of identifying systems with distinct poles. The filter's convergence rate is increased by whitening its exciting input through the discrete Fourier transform. The pole parameter update can be restricted within a sector of the unit disk, thus improving its convergence rate. This sector is typically determined by the a priori knowledge about the damping and the natural modal frequencies of the flexible structure dynamics.
