    Abstract

    The 1995 review covers a wide range of anthropological essays covering historical and contemporary themes. There is an overview paper by Ernestine Friedl, followed by essays in four sections, comprising 31 papers, covering the archaeological, biological, linguistic and communicative practices and sociocultural aspects of the discipline. There is a special two-part sub-section, comprising border issues and gender studies. Specific topics include the archaeology of slavery; biological changes in human populations with agriculture; advances in Maya epigraphy, and the anthropology of globalisation and transnationalism. -I.C.White
