Absence of world-sheet and spacetime anomalies in the semi-covariantly quantized heterotic string

    Abstract

    The anomalies of the heterotic string in the semi-light-cone gauge can be removed by adding suitable local order ℏ terms to the local Weyl and spacetime (rigid) Lorentz transformation rules. The resulting quantum transformation rules exactly satisfy the spacetime Lorentz algebra. This removes the doubt, expressed in the literature, concerning the consistency of the heterotic string at the quantum level.
