Abstract

A DNA nanomechanical device was constructed by linking two triple-helical DNA motifs with a shaft of conventional DNA bearing the binding site for the integration host factor (IHF, shown as green ellipse in the picture). Binding of IHF to this site causes marked shaft bending, which can be monitored by fluorescence resonance energy transfer between donor (D) and acceptor (A) dyes.
